Challenge
- Enterprises chase slow applications with bandwidth upgrades, MPLS, SD-WAN and WAN optimization. None of them address today’s bursty streaming, IoT, voice, video and web traffic, which transport-layer congestion control misreads as congestion—slowing flows even when capacity is free.
- Cloud migration adds jitter from VM crosstalk and hypervisor scheduling, and Wi-Fi adds more: RF interference, fading and sudden surges of users. Adding 5 GHz access points does not fix it, and their shorter range can make it worse.
- Most traffic is now encrypted, so optimization tools that need payload access—deduplication, compression, caching—offer little, and their decrypt-and-re-encrypt step can slow things down further.
