Challenge
- A major mobile network operator faced inconsistent performance across high-speed mobile and edge environments, especially at its busiest cell sites.
- Jitter and packet loss from RF interference, fading, handoffs and other last-mile wireless issues caused CUBIC congestion control—widely used in mobile networks—to throttle throughput despite available capacity.
- Last-mile wireless jitter and loss degraded the entire end-to-end path, reducing backhaul and core-network throughput and leaving their capacity underutilized.
- Unreliable performance increased subscriber support costs and kept mobile devices in high-power RAN-connected states longer, reducing battery life. Both issues were significant factors in reducing subscriber satisfaction and increasing churn.
